The fifth week of my internship was really only three days due to the holiday, but they were extremely productive, and the entire week was fun.
The first day of the week was devoted to working on asset creation and placement for my own game, Lucid. I learned a lot about Unreal Engine’s terrain system, and I had a blast creating a landscape that I will soon populate with a forest. I made some flowers and a log in Blender, and I’m going to turn them into a flower garden.
The second day I took a little hiatus from the MIX Center, as my mentor, Chris, and I went to the main ASU campus in Tempe to experiment with motion capture. This was definitely a highlight of my time here, as I got to dress up in a real motion capture suit and act.

I was able to use the motion capture data to create animations in Blender, and hopefully I’ll be able to use one of them in my game.
The third day was more of the same, learning Unreal Engine and creating assets, but there wasn’t too much help at the MIX Center, as most everyone was out for the holiday. I was, however, able to get permission to use the 3D printers next week, and I think I will because I want to create an interesting lamp from my favorite game, Subnautica.
The rest of the week has been dedicated to celebrations, and we’ve been playing games and eating good food. I went to the MIX the night of the fourth, and it was my first time seeing it at night.

The fireworks show in Mesa was fantastic, but it was still 100 degrees out, so we didn’t spend too much time outside. The next day we played games all day, and in the evening I finally made it to the pool, which was absolutely lovely.
Next week I have a few meetings I’m excited for, but mostly I plan on working in Unreal and on my 3D printing project. Overall, I’m excited and ready to start the final week of my internship!
