Hi everyone! I’m Emily Tuohy, a junior at Telluride High School. I’ve always been very passionate about the environment and spend most of my time outdoors. Growing up in Telluride, I’ve spent my life surrounded by a nature-driven community where I had a childhood full of camping, hiking, and skiing. What I love most of all is going out of my comfort zone and exploring new places. This summer, I get the opportunity to stay and learn on Tybee Island, Georgia, interning at their Marine Science Center. I am so excited to deepen my understanding of marine conservation and be in a completely new environment. A few years ago, I visited a turtle hospital in the Florida Keys. It was really inspiring to see how much care people put into helping the injured turtles. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that work, and do what I can to become educated on marine life conservation. I’m taking this wonderful opportunity as a chance to broaden my knowledge, challenge myself, and get a sense of what it’s like on my own.
