Hey everyone! My name is Riley Embrey, I am currently a junior at Montrose High School, and I will be learning and exploring all things chemistry this summer at the University of Houston! I am so excited for this opportunity to explore my academic interests, as well as experience what adulthood will be like when I am thrown into college life. I look forward to all of the people I will meet, the things they will teach me, and the invaluable experiences and memories I will walk away with at the end of this summer!

Fort Lewis. – Advanced Jazz Trip

Throughout my academic career, I have always held the intuitive value to do my best in school. I worked hard for good grades, but as I have traversed through high school, my main issue has been finding what subjects are actually interesting to me. End of Sophomore year, I chose to take AP Chemistry, which had felt like a leap of faith and an overwhelming workload. But as I grew into junior year, I learned to manage the work, and even fall in love with the class. The different ins and outs of molecules and how they behave, how they make our world fit together perfectly, and everything in the curriculum has deeply fascinated me. AP Chemistry was my gateway into the sciences, and now I find myself immersed in other subjects like AP Biology and exploring forensics through true crime documentaries. After high school I intend to go to college and major in Chemistry or related subjects, and through this summer, I hope to expand my love for the sciences even more.

Student Council – Car Smash

I like to involve myself in many school activities like swim and dive, track, and jazz band. I find that I always do better academically when challenged physically in things like sports. I live for the competition and adrenaline track and swim meets give you, and the team’s community gives me the support to push myself harder. I am also apart of Montrose High School’s student council, where we plan important events like Prom, spread the school spirit, and learn budgeting for our classes. Among other clubs, Student Council has taught me important values like accountability, money handling, and communication in a collaborative environment.

Outside of school, I love doing different crafts and activities, and most of the time I find myself crocheting. I love being able to make my own creations, and knowing the art allows me to put my imagination into reality. I also keep a small treasury of houseplants in my room, so my once bedroom has now turned into a tropical rainforest, filled with greenery and an excess of humidity.

My family has always been at the center of my heart, and I try to find different ways to spend time with them. From hiking with my sister, going out to meals with my dad, or being flat out lazy with my stepdad and mom when we lay on the couch watching TV, being with my family always has recharged my battery.

Here is a big thanks to Pinhead for giving me this amazing opportunity to grow me knowledge and widen my connections! I hope this blog will help future Pinterns navigate their internship, and interest those following along on my experiences in Houston, Texas!
