Hello! My name is Randol Thompson, and I am currently a Junior at All Saints Episcopal School. I am excited to begin the internship at the University of Utah that Pinhead Institute has provided me. Being able to partake in research that has real effects on the world is something I could only have dreamed of as a kid.

I have loved science my entire life, watching Youtube videos so I could better understand the world (thanks to Kurzgesagt!). In high school, I have learned by taking many fun stem based courses: such as AP chemistry and AP environmental science. I also am currently working on a thesis with the Tad Bird Honors College. It is a 4 year long program within All Saints Episcopal School where you gain the skills to properly research and write so you can write a thesis your junior year. My thesis paper topic is on battery policy in developing countries.

When I am not at school you can catch me doing a variety of activities: hanging out with friends, playing golf, reading, hiking, and volunteering for the Young Mens Service League, which is a program that develops leadership and life skills while volunteering. I am interested in environmental science, which is what I will be researching this summer. My interest became piqued in my AP environmental science class due to the fact that their are so many factors affecting the health of our planet that are often overlooked in an age where we are constantly losing our leverage, time.

Living on my own will both be a new challenge and good experience for me. Luckily, I believe that I am ready.
