Hello everyone! This week of my internship was probably the most exciting week yet. I got to watch our Flat-sat satellite project come to life, along with receiving the news that we could begin UV laser engraving the stencil for the satellites.
At the beginning of our week(Monday and Tuesday), a major problem occurred in our Flat-sat project. Over the weekend, our project didn’t save and we had to completely restart the entire CAD layout. All though this slowed down the project, it was a great learning experience. We got to use the software a lot more figuring out more efficient ways to do our project. One thing we learned when we restart was how to mate items. the purpose of mating items is to stick items together, and lock them in place in the correct position. with mating, you can also move the objects into the correct direction.
On Wednesday, we got the exciting news that we could begin the laser engraving for our satellite project. We began a course that we would do in our free time for the remainder of the week. This is so that we would have access to the room that the laser is in. Also, I got to see the Flat-sat of another project that was being worked on at the same time that was almost fully complete. This inspired us to add switches to activate and deactivate the battery in our Flat-sat. I was unfortunately unable to take a picture of their model because we cannot share information on theirs.
Thursday, we used our CAD drawings and began drilling holes in our box. It was a blast learning how the milling machines work. Although we didn’t have the proper training for the machine shop, we were allowed to use the drills and set up the mill for Dmitry.
On Friday, we did not do too much because very few people were at the office. We finished our laser lab training for the following week, and celebrated our boss’s 40th birthday. Also, we drilled the final holes for our box and we will begin assembly next week!
This week, my mother treated us to an incredible Oliver Tree/Tai Verde concert, giving us an unforgettable experience. Additionally, Baen’s mother returned from a trip and took us to an Italian restaurant for a delicious meal. We also engaged in numerous exciting activities, such as rock climbing and jamming on guitars with our roommates. Overall an amazing week and I cannot wait to see what the next one brings.
