This week was another good one. It was packed with mature and great experiences.

Monday was the 4th of july so we had a day off. I spent my day just hanging out and having a good time with my roommates.

Tuesday we got back to work. I spent most of the time realigning things and making sure everything was as perfect as possible. I was finally able to see a real image of the image we were working with. I also began working on my poster, which I was going to present Friday.

Wednesday was dedicated to fixing the image to be more resolved. I got the most resolved image I have gotten. It was a very repetitive process and took a lot of adjusting. It was frustrating when you finally got one thing adjusted but that made something else move out of place. You would have to adjust one thing then the other in order to make the image as clear as possible. The biggest adjustment struggle I had was adjusting the second set of optics. This included a grating, objective, tube lens, and camera. I would adjust the grating so the image was being reflected perpendicularly, but that would cause the image to not go through the tube lens. But after a long time of adjusting the grating and the objective I finally got it to go through both.

Thursday was a day for preparation. In the morning Professor Baldelli, my RA Valeria, and I ran to HEB in order to pick up some food and refreshments for the poster presentations happening on Friday. I also spent thursday preparing my poster for it to be ready to present on Friday.

Friday I listened to Ben present his project. I was thoroughly impressed with his ability to grasp these high level concepts. After Ben presented I helped my RA set up the poster presentation area. I made amazing looking charcuterie boards and set up other snacks around the table. I then presented my poster to many professors, undergraduate students, graduate students, and post docs. It was intimidating at first, but feeling comfortable explaining these harsh high level subjects came soon after.

Saturday I gave an elevator talk. This meant I got a total of 5 minutes to explain my project as well as possible. I was given a marker and a white board in order to explain my research. I ended up doing rather well at this and was proud of myself. My roommates also moved back home. It was sad to see them go, but I was extremely grateful that I got to spend most of my time in Houston with them since they were such incredible people.

Sunday was another reset day. I spent the day cleaning and organizing things in order to start my week off right.

This was my second to last week in Houston and seeing my internship come to an end is a little bittersweet. I am excited to go home and show everyone what I have been dedicating my time to, but I don’t want to leave this great lab.
