Hi, my name is Ava Osborne and I am interning at Asteroid Day in the small country of Luxembourg. This week was mainly preparing for the upcoming events. I wrote a lot of posts for the social media to get everyone who follows Asteroid Day excited. I also wrote a newsletter that will go out to all the subscribers. As a team, we looked through all the event flows and spreadsheets so we know what to expect for the coming week. It had been a crazy amount of work to get ready, we are working 9-9 every day this week except for Saturday. The first event will start Tuesday and it will be a presentation on why we should spend government money on asteroid research. All the astronauts and astrophysicists will arrive very soon and it is our job to get them to their discussion panels at the correct time and make sure they are comfortable. I can not wait to meet the guests that we have, there is NASA astronaut Ron Garren and Ed Lu, Michel Tognini an ESA astronaut, and much more. They will be discussing the Hera mission and what we are going to do if an asteroid were to head towards Earth.
I did a lot of editing work this week and I went through a 19-page document and had to make sure it was perfect because it was for our press release. It was a lot of pressure but I think I did a good job and I learned that solar system is not capitalized no matter what google tells you.
There are a total of seven different events scattered all throughout next week but it is all in preparation for the big day June 30th. Asteroid Day LIVE will be going on that day and it can be streamed from anywhere in the world. Then that night there is a Gala that all the interns will be allowed to attend. We will get to mingle with all these brilliant minds and I am so excited.
On our off day on Saturday I went out to a great breakfast by myself and I got a cappuccino and a croissant. Then I headed over to the All-English book store and got some new books to read. I walked all around the city and saw a lot of pretty buildings and bridges. After that, there was a giant thunderstorm and I stayed inside and watched War Dogs on Netflix and drank lots of tea.
Overall I am very happy here and excited to update you guess on what happens next week!
