Hello again, and welcome to my second blog for my second week here in Arizona. This week was more of a hands on week. Monday was a very simple and short day. I sketched my bear and the crime scene, and put out evidence markers around the ‘crime scene’. I then took photos of all the evidence and the crime scene itself.
On Tuesday, after the photos were complete and checked off my list, I gathered the bear’s bones into a box and hauled him into the lab. I proceeded to get my gloves and a mask on and organized the bones by size and placement.
The next day, I went in the lab and I pieced the bear together as best as I could given the circumstances, (not all the bones were present). It took about 2 hours to get all of the bones into a position I was satisfied with, and that was all I had planned for the day.
On Thursday the 15th, my mentor Christina had me go up to headquarters because she put together some activities for me. She took the time to print out activity papers and put out all the materials for my lab. I got to lift fingerprints and analyze blood spatters, which was especially cool because unlike labs I’ve done in my online Forensic Science classes, these labs actually worked. I was satisfied with it. After I completed my activities, Christina’s coworker Ben quizzed me on my beetles, showing me how to identify them. I got to look at my beetles and some ants through a microscope.
On Friday, to conclude my week, I was assigned to watch a Netflix show called “The Innocence Files” which throughout the episodes, involves almost every type of evidence you can think of. This assignment was really awesome, it was a rainy day in Arizona, so it was a perfect day to stay inside and binge watch this series.
