Hello again! This past week was the tenth week of my internship with the Collaborative to Combat the Illegal Turtle Trade. I met with my mentor, Jennifer Sevin, again on Monday. We talked about the research paper and she helped me by coming up with a basic outline. She also introduced me to Google Scholar, which will help me find relevant papers and articles to reference while writing. This week, I have continued to enter information on turtle sales into our spreadsheet. After I finished up the week’s information, I moved the spreadsheet to Excel. Now that the data is more organized, it will be easier to analyze it and make graphs/tables. I will be presenting our findings on this month’s CCITT conference call. I will most likely still be working on the paper afterwards, since it will need multiple revisions.
Later in the week, my mentor let me know about the Turtle Survival Alliance having presentations on conservation this week. I was excited to find out while watching that the keynote speaker for the first day was Joel Sartore, who is a National Geographic photographer. He has photographed thousands of species in his Photo Ark project. I was glad to hear about his work again. Throughout this internship, it has been exciting to be exposed to different areas within the field of conservation.
Outside of my internship, I went paddle boarding with my brothers and neighbors in Ridgway. I had never done it before, so it was fun to try! I also spent some time with my best friend over the weekend. Aside from that, my new job as a lifeguard has also kept me busy. I am looking forward to continuing with my internship!
