Side note: I got an extension!! I will be staying on at conservation metrics until week 8 🙂
Monday:
I worked on formally documenting the projects that I had been working on. I have never done this and it felt good to explain everything I had been working on. Besides that, I had a pretty normal day.
Tuesday:
I was assigned a new project today. One of the issues with the workflow of the company is having the timezones and devices coordinated. I have witnessed hands on the frustration, confusion, and chaos created by the lack of formalized timezones. I was assigned to expand on my original project by building in programs that read out sample rate, channel types, and other pieces of information that can be used to find the size of files.
Wednesday:
I had already finished the wave file reader, as I was familiar with the format. However, the other popular filetype is the flac filetype. I was not familiar with the filetype and had issues with reading out bits of information that were not stored in bytes. I dod not finish this construction today but I am very close to being done.
Thursday:
I finished the flac reader in the morning. It was really challenging because I had no idea how to grab specific bits out of a byte. I spent the rest of the day working on integrating my new program into my multi-core file reader. It had virtually zero performance effect and can read 80,000 files per minute.
