This week was a week of realizations. I realized that people tend to make things more complicated then what they are. By this I mean that my design for the Maxwell TVAC plate was way more complicated then it should’ve been. Upon this realization I edited the rails and made sure it would fit into the previous TVAC plate. I also realized that we oversimplify some things too. SOLIDWORKS seemed easy when you learn through the tutorials, but when you go rogue and make your own design… it gets very tricky. Through these two realizations, I have learned to take everything with a grain of salt. Not under/overestimate things. However, the notion that if you persevere, it’ll all end well, reins true. Yes I over complicated my design, and yes SOLIDWORKS was a challenge this week, but I still met my agendas. I also tested my design and it works!
The top portion is Maxwell, the bottom is a side view of my TVAC plate.
From the front view you see the CubeSat fits, and there is some “wiggle room” too.
This week we’ve taken care of business. I’ve gone to the Boulder Public Library to renew Victor Hugo’s novel “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. We checked out the cafe inside the library and the gallery! Also, since we are living on our own we have taken care of groceries, cleaned our dwelling, cooked for ourselves, and got schoolwork done too. We have established a routine: awake, get ready, make lunch, head out to work, get groceries if needed, cook, clean, and relax. However, we plan on changing it up on the weekends!
This is the Boulder’s Potter Guild and has been running for 50 years!
We have established routines and our duties, but we did do one new thing this week! This Friday was the Aerospace Building’s first movie night! They showed us Apollo 11. It was so cool to see never before seen film of Mike Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong! It was also weird to think about the extent of editing the old images and videos to fit the movie. Regardless it was amazing! All the speeches given, jokes said, and philosophical inquiries! I was hooked the second they finished the countdown!
Here is Neil Armstrong collecting samples and conducting experiments on the lunar surface!
We are so close to going home (two weeks) and we have bittersweet feelings about it. We will loose some of the independence we have, in return for the cure to homesickness. Caroline and I love Boulder. The people, the opportunities, the mood, all of it! It’s depressing to think, we have to leave soon. With a heavy heart I imagine us getting into a vehicle and leaving our six week home.
