Week three was filled with progress and success! We actually managed to get Hydra working on our computers, and that included getting it to work on Aidan’s Mac, which we thought would be impossible. However, separate programs allowed us to run Hydra for Aidan. Unfortunately, both of our programs were stuffed with errors. Firstly, the program only got close to opening correctly, but there were decoders that had to be manually set due to the fact that there were numerous naming errors. Luckily, our mentor Andrew was able to help us straighten them out and get the program running. But the next problem came in the additions and changes we made to the code.
The list was even larger before this picture. The problem was that we were missing numerous variables for the program to link up too. So, we had to go through each packet of Hydra one-by-one to find the missing variables as well as fix the labels of different lines of code so that they would be read correctly. The labels in the HK and TLM packets were not synced, so the program couldn’t find the commands set in the packet, therefore claiming that they “did not exist”. But, after going through each line to find the missing variables and lining up the labels in both HK and TLM, Hydra now looks like this.
The two errors that remain are only there because the program must be connected to a certain radio for certain functions. Otherwise, the problem of getting Hydra to run is essentially complete. But we are not quite finished with that work. Our next steps are to:
1: Set up the mathematical values for the new sensors that were not on the QB50 satellite.
2. Check how CDH is going with Alex to start running tests with it.
3 (maybe). If CDH is going well, start running tests with the new sensors with Les.
As for what we did on the side, plenty of fun things were happening.
For plans that we had later, we had to look for a guitar shop that would sell the supplies I needed. In the process, we found the exact same headphones I had!
Cooper, Jess, Aidan and I all had some fun bowling as well in Denver.
Clearly, by my form, I knew what I was doing and totally didn’t place last in every round.
The highlight of my day was playing guitar on Pearl Street with Cooper!
We played literally an hour before he left for Ouray since it was his last day. We made a profit of six dollars though!
