Second Week Aerospace Engineering – Aidan Kask

The second week we switched gears with what we were coding. This time we were adding the code for the sensors to make sure that the satellite will as a whole function properly and distribute the power evenly. This time we had to add code for the EPS sensors, which is the board in the satellite that distributes the power evenly amongst everything else, so this is an essential part that cannot be done quickly. Also, we had to make the bits were consistent for the sizes of packet information. The basic information packet is about 8 bits, but they can go all the way to 64. These packets also always include a frame. This frame describes whether the piece of information is a voltage, temperature, counter or state. When this packet is turned into these items, the process is called decommutation. These packets, when sent to a device, are called commands while the frames that are from the hardware are called the telemetry. Each of these items stored has a type, which states how they will be interpreted. This can be defined within the type as a DN (data number). This states how many bits are used with the packet. This lastly leads to the endianness of the type if the type is bigger than 8 bits. It specifically determines the importance of the bits. For example, a big endian makes a large significance of the bits, whereas a little endian makes little significance of the bits.

Aside from work, we have met up with friends that are on their internship as well. We met up with Carson, a girl who was in CU Boulder and majored in engineering. Mike, Jessica, and Cooper and I all went with her to dinner one night so she could tell us how we should handle university and find a good one to pick. She also was a CU Boulder Alumni and knew exactly where we were and what we should check out since she studied in the same building. After that, she told us some good places to hang out. After she gave us a quick tour of the Pearl Street Mall, she said goodbye and we went to see a movie.

Overall we are getting more of a grip on the Pinternship and it is becoming a lot more normal now. It is also giving good insight on what university will be like once we get there.
