At work this week I almost got bitten for a second time. This, however, was from a porcupine. Luckily he didn’t get me because I moved my hand before he could get a good bite. The rest of the week was mainly talking to customers and working on diets. This is a lot of cutting veggies and portioning out kibble. But it also consists of killing mealworms, and I hate killing mealworms. I’ve done it many times now but every time I do it I still hate it.
When you get mealworms you have to grab them out of a bucket we keep them in and crush their heads. When you do this they will try and bite you or poke you with their butts. That feeling makes my insides suck up into my chest. I thought that the more I do it the less I would hate it, but I kill at least one a day and it still makes me want to run away screaming. Other than this struggle, the week was pretty relaxed. All the animals were relatively calm, except Kingston, a squirrel monkey.
These guys are always pretty active and Kingston’s usually loving. On Monday this was not the case. While one of the staff members was cleaning his enclosure, the door behind her did not latch. So I leaned over and closed the latch, while doing this Kingston reached out a grabbed a handful of hair. This little brat then pulled both his hands back in and screamed at me. I was so mad and I couldn’t do anything so I just walked away.
This monkey won’t be getting me next week!
Outside of work the big news this week is that I blacked out.
On Wednesday we went to Six Flags. Personally, I love roller coasters, even though I’ve only been on them twice. As much fun as the trip was a few bad things did happen while we were there. The first: my host brother dropped his phone on a ride known as X2. It was in his pocket and slid out. He tried to grab it, missed, then kicked it in the air and tried to grab it again, he missed. The phone wasn’t recovered and given back to us until the next Monday. The second: I blacked out. We were on a ride and the g-force was so strong I went down for a few second and came back. That was the first time I have every really blacked out. Honestly it was not bad as I would have thought. We joked ahead of time about me blacking out. I said if that happened my day was over. When it actually happened I was surprisingly ok and continued to go on rides. The rest of the day was full of phone jokes and nauseating rides.
See you!
