The Washington Memorial at dusk

It’s funny to think that I have been here at the Rodham for only a few weeks. I have learned so much in that time. This past week I got to see what a fairly typical week in Dr. El-Bayoumi’s shoes looks like, attending the weekly Rodham meeting as well as several conferences and meetings regarding public health and community work. We have been preparing for next week when the Rodham will is organizing a sexual education class for students in Barry Farms Recreation Center camps. The institute is also co-hosting a networking event, themed around toxic stress in children.

On Thursday at the clinic, I saw how difficult it can be for a doctor to take care of their patients when a man with chronic pain came in. There was not much that the doctor I was working with could do to help this man besides refer him to pain clinic, but meeting the patient rattled me a little bit.

The Lincoln Memorial at sunset

I crossed a few of the last DC-musts of my list this week, and watched the sunset over the Lincoln Memorial. I have continued exploring the city, and have found one of my favorite spots, a small used-bookstore next to my Metro stop. I have continued familiarizing myself with DC, but decided to take advantage of the east coast had hopped on a bus to Philadelphia for the weekend to visit family friends and my Godmother. While in the area I made several college visits, including University of Pennsylvania, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore. All the schools were beautiful, but my favorite was Swarthmore, where my father went.

Time flies! I can’t believe that next week will be my last week here in DC.
