Downtown Chicago in the distance

This week was a bit more laid back, with fewer visits from project advisers, but overall it went well. I met with another doctoral student, Kyle Kremer, to discuss what he is studying, which is Double White Dwarf Binary Systems. We spent time plotting the parameters in graphs using Python scripts in Terminal, but that only made up for most of Friday’s time. The rest was spent putting data into spreadsheets using the parameters Aprajita had given us. We took a long lunch break to play soccer on Friday as well, as it was a nice day and all the interns wanted to make the most of it. The end of the European Cup was this week, and so when we were done with most or all of the work, we watched France beat Germany in the semifinals, and, sadly, Portugal beating France in the finals for the first time in 41 years. Not too much else happened inside the lab during the week.

The Wombats

Outside the lab, I went to two concerts. One was at the Summer Fest in Milwaukee and the other was Weezer in Tinley Park. Both were incredible, and very different from every concert I’ve been to in Telluride, as there were many more people and the food wasn’t as tasty. I still can’t fully grasp that I was able to go to a Weezer concert in my lifetime, as they are one of my all-time favorite bands! I am extremely thankful that I had earplugs for both concerts, otherwise they would have been deemed by me as intolerable. Hopefully next week will be filled with more work and more amazing experiences!
