Hi! My name is Arianna, and I am a junior at Telluride High School. I love sciences and math because I think they are the foundation of life, so what better way of working with both than through medicine? I have strong leadership and public speaking skills, I’m good at following instructions, have a strong sciences and math background, am fluent in both English and Spanish, and I am good at problem solving, attention to detail, and pattern recognition. Before moving to Telluride, I used to attend an Early College of Health Sciences, so this internship would help me continue to expand my knowledge in the field and get me one step closer to my goals.
I am originally from Colombia, but I have lived in the US for 5 years now. I have a bird, I love museums and fungi, and I’m currently working on earning a black belt in TaeKwonDo. In my free time I like to go skiing, skating, or hanging out with friends and family, reading (mostly historical fiction), and learn new languages (currently Mandarin and German). I was part of the town’s robotics team, the Box Canyon Bots, this year, and we made it all the way to states! I controlled the robot’s arm, and next year I hope to be a team captain. I can’t wait to see how far we get next season!
In the future I hope to become an anesthesiologist because I would have the opportunity to work in high-pressure environments where critical care is needed. The ability to remain calm and provide expert care during surgery is something I find deeply fulfilling, for I am great remaining calm in high-stress situations. Anesthesiologists also work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals to provide the best care for patients. I enjoy working as part of a team, and I believe that anesthesiologists play a critical role in the success of any surgical procedure, which is why I am passionate about this field. This summer, I hope to get an internship somewhere around Washington DC, working closely with surgeons and the operating room, or emergency room. I love representing my culture wherever I go, and I hope to do the same for the Pinhead Institute now that I am a Pintern.
