Hi! My name is Ally Metzger and I am currently a junior at Montrose High School. Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with how the world works, conducting my own experiments such as propagating my own plants or tracking temperature trends for a year. Later, I applied those passions to an engineering internship where I made calculations for certain soil conditions and how they affect the foundations of buildings. Throughout these experiences my love for all things STEM has grown and yet I still haven’t quite figured out what I’d like to do in college. However, as a naturally perseverant and hard-working person, I love to find the answers to certain problems and that includes the question of, “What do I want to do?” I do have an interest in biology and chemistry specifically, but I hope that through an internship this summer I will be able to answer that question more fully.

In my free time I love to be outside in nature with my family and friends. This mainly includes hiking and climbing. I have been hiking my entire life and being able to explore the outdoors at such a young age is what I believe gave me the passion for understanding the world.

I have recently started climbing too with the most amazing team at my high school. Our competition season starts in the winter so I’m not able to climb outside as much as I’d like, but during the summer I try to do it as much as I can.

Furthermore, I love to travel. I haven’t been outside the country yet, however I have been to almost all the states (with the Northeastern part of the United States, Hawaii, and Alaska left). The diversity of our country is fascinating and I have learned so much from exploring these new places.

That all being said, I truly can’t wait to dive into a STEM internship this summer and grow not only my math and science skills, but also learn other soft skills and how to live away from home. With an aspiration to achieve a career in STEM this is a dream come true and I can’t wait to make the most of it wherever and whatever I get to do. Thank you to Pinhead for giving me this opportunity and I hope you follow me as I go on this amazing journey!
