Hello!
My name is Shiloh Warthen and I’m a high-school junior from Montrose, Colorado. This summer I’ll be an intern through the Pinhead Institute, a wonderful program based out of telluride that helps students like me get real world experience in STEM pathways. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to take part in this program since once I graduate I hope to pursue a degree in the sciences, such as biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or epidemiology (the study of the patterns, causes, and effects of health and disease conditions!). If you haven’t guessed already, I love math, science, and working collaboratively with others and my academic life strongly reflects those interests.
When I’m not in school I enjoy reading, hanging out with my friends and family, and playing volleyball! I also work part-time at a local pet supply store and, while it’s easy to complain about work after a long day of school, I honestly love my job! My pups, Sully and Quinn, love it too; or at least they love all the treats I bring home for them at the end of my shift.
Life in a small town means we don’t always have designed activities like trampoline parks or malls at our fingertips so most of my time spent with friends involves the outdoors, or coffee, fast-food, and Walmart trips. When it’s warm enough driving down to Ridgway Reservoir or Taviwach, a lake just a few minutes drive from main street, are a few favorites of ours. We swim, paddleboard, and soak up the summer while we can. My friends and I always find a way to have a good time, but I can’t wait to explore new horizons this coming summer!
