Hi!

I’m Kiera Iversen. I am a junior at Olathe High School, and I will be interning with Pinhead in the summer of 2025. I am passionate about collecting and analyzing data, which ties together my interests in math, science, and English. This passion has led me to success as a three-time state competitor in healthcare administration through FBLA, where I also serve as secretary. I’m balancing rigorous courses while staying active in various clubs such as Knowledge Bowl, NHS, and Drama Club. These experiences have helped me build professionalism and overcome new challenges. I’m very eager to apply these skills in a real-world setting and continue to take these experiences with me as I navigate my life and career in the future.

It has been my aspiration for as long as I can remember to have a career in STEM, specifically in the medical field. My passion for medicine and science has only been further fortified by my personal experiences. When I was first introduced to Pinhead, and the idea of becoming a Pintern, I was eager and excited about the amazing opportunity. Being from a small, rural town, it can be difficult to find enriching STEM opportunities, so the idea of being placed in a position where I could gain real-world experience was exciting, to say the least. Even more so, when I got the call that I’d been chosen to be an intern, I was ecstatic. This opportunity means so much to me, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

Besides my academics, some things I love to do are read, spend time with friends and family, and sing…a lot. To support my music, I invest time into my school’s theatre program, I am in an Acapella group in my school (which recently won 1,000 dollars for our school by earning first in the Montrose Got Talent competition), and I attend honor choirs with my fellow students and director. I love to immerse myself in a good book that captivates me; I recently re-read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, which was as enthralling as the first time I read it. Along with this, I love to travel, and I have been fortunate enough that my mother has been able to hold a few photography retreats to pay for and allow me to have some great travel opportunities in Scotland and Canada. I love placing myself in environments different than my own, which is why I’m so excited to make the most of wherever my internship takes me! I also love playing with my dog, Yennifer.

I’m so excited to see where this internship takes me and how it helps me to cultivate my skills and learn. I hope you all will enjoy reading along about my journey. Thank you!
