This was the last week of my internship this summer. Instead of finishing in DC with the Rodham Institute, Sarah Holbrooke invited me to spend my last week in NYC with her and meet with different people here. I stayed with Sarah in Brooklyn Heights after retrieving my luggage from my apartment in DC on Monday/Tuesday.

Train back into NYC

Monday: Monday afternoon I took a train back to DC from NYC because my train on Sunday had been canceled. I got back to the apartment I was renting to pack my things so that I could bring them up to NYC on a train.

Tuesday: On Tuesday I woke up early to catch an 8am train back up to NYC. I then went out into Manhattan for the day.

Women’s soccer at Hudson Park(Saturday)

Wednesday: Wednesday I met with a broadway publicist for coffee. She told me about what goes into marketing for broadway shows and how she got the job. I then went to a sports bar to watch the USA mens olympic soccer game against France at 3pm.

Thursday: On Thursday I met a woman from Planned Parenthood who is the head of innovation there. We had great conversation and she told me what she does with technology in her job. I then met with two public defenders at the State Supreme Court who told me about their job and how they got to their positions. Julie, one of the lawyers, then showed me to a court room that had a case going on for me to witness for about an hour.

Outside Courthouse

Friday: On Friday I was able to meet with another lawyer who was friends with the two women I met on Thursday. He told me about his job, and then I got to watch about an hour of his court case.

This has been an amazing experience, and I am very happy to have been awarded this opportunity to spend the summer in DC and NYC.
