Week three is already over! This week is the half way point in my summer internship in Kentucky. I have learned so much! I am really excited to see what new opportunities there will be in the next three weeks. This week was awesome for a couple of reasons.

On Monday, I was the guinea pig in a motion capture test. My body was covered from head to toe with little reflective balls featured in the image at left. The purpose of this test was to set up a computer program which would recognize and track certain parts of the body based on the location of the balls. We are still in the process of getting the program to run properly.

With one patient we played trouble to work on fine motor control

On Tuesday I started in the out patient care clinic. Working in the out patient clinic is completely different then working in the research clinic. The out patient clinic still only works with people who have spinal cord injuries but is more focused on helping patients better their lives through therapy. The research clinic does the same task but is also more experimental. There is more of a focus of knowledge and understanding of spinal cords injuries in the research clinic. I really enjoy the outpatient clinic because you work with a lot more people, on a much larger spectrum of injury. Wednesday was a work day. mostly spent behind a computer trying to calculate certain cardio vascular signals.

Thursday I was back in the out patient clinic. I had more fun on Thursday and I think that is from working with an amazing group of therapist. The out patient clinic is a large gym that is constantly packed with patients. It is a high pace environment. Pay atention or get left behind, it that simple. A super cool thing I got to do on Thursday was design and make this claw like thing to assist a patient in pulling their pants on.

Friday was an interesting day at work. Some people are moving office so I helped them move out of their old ones into news ones. And we threw an office party for someone who is leaving to attend med school. We celebrated with cotton candy burritos, which is basiclly every four year olds dream.

I rounded off the week by attending a Louisvillies Bats game and spending all my free time swimming around in lakeside!

Thats all for this week! Thank you for reading my blog and I cant wait to tell you all about next week. Adios!
