Hi all! This is week five of my internship at the Frazier Rehab Facility in Louisville Kentucky. I am nearing the end of my internship, with only one week left, and if I’m being completely honest, I am a little sad. I have met so many amazing people and experienced so many new things that helped me grow as a person. I am genuinely going to miss this wonderful work environment.

This week I spent the majority of my time in the research department, collecting data and information that I need to complete a timeline. This timeline is focused on one specific patient here at Fraizer who has been attending locomotor training for a while, and has improved tremendously in the time they have been here. My task was to collect all of the patients past medical information that was applicable to SCI. I needed to include X-Rays of their scoliosis, kyphosis, hip dysplasia, range of motion, and their SATCo scores. It was very time consuming to find all of this information, but it kept me entertained. I’ll be honest at the beginning of this internship, I was not looking forward to the research aspect of things, but now that I have an end goal and a purpose, I actually like it a lot. It’s almost like solving a puzzle, you have to figure out what goes where and why things happened the certain way they did. Having a project to work on has really pushed me to excel.

I also spent some time in the clinic, observing physical and occupational therapy sessions. I read more case studies, that focused on the reason why children injuried with a SCI before age five, experience a lot of “side effects”, things like scoliosis, kyphosis, hip dysphasia, etc. These conditions are in the timeline I am compelteing as well, so these case studies were very applicable.

This weekend was very chill. I spent my time at the Lakeside pool and went out to eat at this spectacular breakfast place on Saturday. Then my host family took me to dinner at this Teppanyaki restaurant, where they cooked our meal right in front of us. This was very entertaining.

Overall it was a wonderful week and I am thoroughly enjoying my time here in Kentucky.
