My name is Rose Kirk-Landry and I am interning in environmental engineering at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. During the next six weeks, I will be working on building and programming atmospheric carbon dioxide sensors with an intern from another program, some undergraduate students, and our mentors. I started the week with many introductions to the people at the Energy and Geoscience Institute, one of the buildings/labs I will be working in. Unfortunately most of this week has been spent figuring out my paperwork for the program, so I have only had one day at the university. During the rest of the time, I have been working on a slide presentation on the different types and applications of atmospheric gas sensors with my co-intern Sophia.
I arrived in SLC last weekend and met my host mom Valerie. During my first week here, I have done a lot of cooking and reading, started a membership at a local pottery studio, and even went to see the Cure in concert. This weekend, my host mom and I are driving to Moab for some hiking and other fun activities.
