This week was great. I have been in head and neck surgery for two weeks. I learned how to suture and read different scans. I was in a tumor resection of the ear where I saw all of the middle ear structure. They resected both canals and the ear structures like the hammer, anvil, and stirrup. They followed the facial nerve to the source of the tumor.
I got to be on many different specialties this week. I was in general where I saw both endoscopic and open hernia repairs. I was in pediatrics where I saw a repair on a Child’s heart. I was on ortho, neuro, and other awesome specialties.
My favorite specialty is cardio. Heart surgery has the best of everything. When the ribs are opened and closed you get the exposure of ortho. When arteries are isolated and removed it is like the delicacy of neurosurgery.
