Hello, This week has been really confusing since some activities cut me out of my regular lab schedule, however, my mentor Taehee has gotten more comfortable with leaving me, and my lab partner Arthur alone at the lab using all of the tools and making different solutions, something that I am really happy about, as well I have been learning new programming languages during my free time and that’s the main thing I do outside the labs and other activities of the program.
On Monday we had a free day since it was the 4th of July so my dorm made a plan to go downtown and see the fireworks, so we did a 30-minute trip on a trolley to downtown San Diego and we so all of the fireworks and enjoy the day.
Tuesday was a great day since we went back to the lab and did some AlF3 solutions with different measurements since last week’s solutions weren’t fully homogeneous, well after making the new solutions we used copper foil and we added 60 microliters to it making a total of 4 copper foils with different solution ratios, well then after adding the solution we used a doctor blade to spread out all the solution into the foil, but an important thing while using the blade is that you should have a constant pace because if not is going to get ruined. Well, finally we set 4 different copper foils with solutions into the vacuum ovens and left them for that day since the drying takes a whole day. The foil and solution need to be fully dried because they are going to be placed on the glove box after all the process and when you place something in the glove box it either needs to be dry or has been in contact with a lot of heat.
Wednesday was an odd day since we were going to use the glove box to create some cells but, it was reserved for some training and on Wednesdays, we have something called college prep at 2:00 pm so we weren’t able to go that day to the lab, something that made me a bit upset since I was looking forward for it.
On Thursdays we were able to get into the glove box and create some battery cells, our mentor had a meeting in the afternoon so Arthur and I only had like 1 hour to create the cells and transfer everything. When I got into the glove box and started creating my cells it felt really weird but good at the same time, your arms get quite tired when you are creating the cells and following all the procedures but it was a great experience. One mistake I almost made was using a metal object to close the Li cell since it creates shortcuts and then you are unable to use it. But overall it was a great experience and our mentor is looking forward to letting us use the glove box without supervision, thats something that excites me a lot. After making the cells we were free for the day and I started learning HTML and creating a website.
Friday was an 8-hour seminar day from 9 am to 5 pm, we were forced to take an anti-bias seminar with an organization called ASL that was made to stop antisemitism, I don’t have a lot to say was kind of boring we did multiple of activities and they were kind of weird and I didn’t enjoy that day, and I am not into the gender change and LGBT stuff so it was extremely weird, but I made a friend on that activity.
Saturday and Sunday I went shopping on Saturday by myself I needed new shoes and a new hat so I went to the mall and bought them, I am going to do some assignments on Sunday and probably go to the beach with some friends.
