This week has been very enlightening. I feel as if this week has been as close to what a real research experience is. I have had a lot of failed attempts and a lot of successful attempts.
Monday professor Baldelli reviewed my images and said they were pretty solid, but the resolution wasn’t ideal. We spent most of the day trying to find what was wrong with the set up in order to be affecting how ideal the resolution was. We did our math calculations again and received the same numbers we started with. It was a little frustrating knowing you did what you thought was going to be right, yet not receive the outcome you wanted.
Tuesday Baldelli and I decided that the best thing we could do was add more dimensions to my drawing. So, I did just that. I then began to think about what often causes issues in certain experiments and human error was the biggest thing I could think of that I did not account for. I then began to see how I could create an ideal set up and minimize the amount of human error. I then decided to ask Baldelli if rotating it to where the optics, which is the heart of my experiment, was on a straight line would make it easier for things to be aligned as best as possible. He said this was a great idea so I began scouting out where I would rebuild my setup.
Rebuilding my setup took up the rest of my week. It takes a lot of adding things, then moving them, and taking them away. It gets frustrating, but it teaches one patience and is brutally honest with one on how future research or future jobs will treat you. I truly feel as if taking those things away with me will set me up in the best position possible for my future.
Sunday was another great day to do fun things in the great city of Houston. We visited the Museum of Natural Science. This museum was huge! It had tons of cool things to see, but the coolest thing I saw was dinosaur bones. Just amazing to see how huge this species was. Later that night we also went and dined at a gorgeous restaurant called The Rustic. The food was amazing and the vibes in the place were even better.
As my time in Houston begins getting slimmer and slimmer I begin to get saddened. This has
