Hi, I’m Karis Varner and this is week two of my internship in San Diego. Monday was an interesting start, the morning started out of a presentation about inter-organ neural circuit for appetite suppression it was a very interesting presentation. The paper report lacked some of the required evidence for some of these finding and lab graph but other then that it was really interesting to learn about reading thru the papers took a really long time but still it was fun.Tuesday was a bit of a chilled out day I was only there for a short amount of time that day and nothing much really happened. Wednesday I observed my mentor dissecting mice and on Thursday I got to dissect my own, while he did nine of them I had two to work on for myself and I didn’t to too great for my first time, I was really nervous but we got one brain out of the two mice that we had but I needed some help big time, I accidently made a small cut on the heart which made it a bit more difficult to pump in the required fluids need to remove the blood and I accidently dropped a mouse and I really recommend to not do that, it was a really cool experience. These mice are really precocious to the lab and there research but most of them are mainly young mice while we need older ones for the project I am working on. When I was starting my mice I was left alone, never leave me alone when I’m about to do something I never done before its like making a bad decision but not telling anyone what your doing so they cant stop you. Friday was another relax day and just helping around when I can and remaining to myself. Saturday was an really fun time, we had like a little lab party with a crawfish boil it was really good and we played a couple of games. It wasn’t a super long party only for a good amount of time. This week of my internship was great.
