Hello again! This was the eighth week of my internship with the Collaborative to Combat the Illegal Turtle Trade. I met with my mentor, Jennifer Sevin, again on Monday. I had finished doing data management, so she created a new, more consistent spreadsheet with it. This will be very helpful over the coming weeks. She gave me the option of doing a brief write up and presenting my findings during the call, but I decided to try to write a research paper to present instead. Although this was the more difficult of my two options, I am excited to start working on it. To familiarize myself with the requirements, I have begun looking at the Herpetological Review website. This is where I will learn the necessary format. I will need to spend more time with this before I am ready to begin writing.
I also have continued to record listings. This will be the last week of listings to be included in the paper, but I will continue to add to the data for future purposes. I knew that writing would be an important part of a career in STEM, but this internship has definitely made me realize how knowledge from a variety of areas is even more important than I had thought. I will also be able to practice my speaking and communication while presenting next month. This is not a strong suit of mine, so it will be a beneficial experience.
Outside of my internship, I spent time with my friends. I enjoyed seeing them a lot, especially since this has been limited given the current situation. I also began taking classes to become a lifeguard, with which I am almost finished. It has been quite a busy week!
