Over the past couple of weeks, I have been slowly chipping away at the forensic interviewing course online. I have already learned tons, but there is still so much to learn. The course focuses on the 10 Step Forensic Interviewing Process, which has been shown to be effective and accurate in gaining information from child witnesses.
Aside from the class, I had a Zoom call with Jennie to talk more about the legal side of forensic psychology. Jennie talked about what a day in her profession might look like, which included things like providing expert testimony and vouching for juveniles in the courtroom. We discussed how the juvenile diversion program works in our county and how a judge normally deals with such proceedings. She mentioned that she loves that her job allows her to help individuals in ways that are unique to each person.
Next week, I will gain access to a scholarly database in order to do some deeper research on the field and gain as much information as I can.
Outside of my internship, I have been working a lot at the pool as a lifeguard. Working at the pool is great because it allows me to be outside all day and everyone else that works there is so fun to be around. Yesterday, I had to bring a “victim” from my own household to help me get re-certified. I brought my brother, who is definitely not a water person. He wasn’t very happy about it, but I promised to make him cookies as compensation, even though he wanted me to pay him cold, hard cash. Not today, Simon. Later, we found a really big caterpillar at the pool, named it Alejandro, and played “Alejandro” by Lady Gaga just for him. He really enjoyed it, but then we had to let him go. Additionally, I have been spending lots of time watching the sunsets with my friends, which NEVER gets old.
