It’s hard to believe that my four weeks are already over! This last week was shorter but I still had plenty to do. Firstly, I was put back on the research team. This time we were researching the up and coming haptic technology. Haptics -anything from a glove to a full body suit- are designed to simulate the feeling of touch in VR. I am a huge fan of Ready Player One, which takes place in a future of extremely advanced haptic VR technology, so it was fascinating to learn that it actually exists. You can actually get your own haptic suit for the low, low price of $1500 to $4,000. Also, I learned that there is haptic technology that converts sound waves into vibrations, which can help the hearing impaired listen to music as well as enhance music listening for the general public.
After this, I was told to compile information on the topic for their next film. I can’t say too much about this (confidentiality agreement), but I certainly learned a lot about that topic.
This internship has been amazing and I have learned so much. Even though living in Los Angeles with three different families was a little stressful, I certainly enjoyed myself and will remember this experience for the rest of my life.
