I cannot believe my time here is almost over. This has been the most amazing experience. This week I got the opportunity to work with kids, by expanding there understanding of how boats work as well as team building exercises and games and sailing. This was a day camp called the float box derby. We would spend the duration of the week getting the kids to work together and be able to work together and be comfortable around one another. That was one of our main focuses.

Our other focus obviously was helping them understand different hull shapes and what made for the best, most efficient boats. We also did tests to help kids understand the importance of structure and strength in a boat by doing mini tests such as the egg drops and bridge building. All concentrating on structure and integrity, important because at the end of the week they would build boats that would be tested by getting in them and going around a course.

By the end of the week the kids have a strong understanding of how these boats need to be built and after planning all week and changing plans, Friday is the day of building. We teamed up with the kids and got to building. Following our draft which was a 10-1 ratio we worked on a time limit. We only had materials that were mostly recyclable such as cardboard and bottles held together with tape unless they decided to bring in something else.

My team Echo, built a small canoe that is shown below. Spoiler and all our boat was not only efficient, buoyant, and stylish, but it was also a winner. A course was set and we were the only ones who completed it, but then we decided to keep going so we completed the course three times. Congrats to Echo which will now be preserved along with the plans and hung in the sailing center.

Though the week was already tons of fun, I did get to enjoy going to the beach, first time for everything. As well as going kayaking multiple times around the seaport and on long pond where we found a good old fashion rope swing and had lots of fun jumping off of there. Last week is coming up and I cant wait to get back to working on the exhibits, doing some promising work getting up some really cool projects.
