The main focus for this week was on the sensor network. We did a lot of work on the communication between nodes, and tested their ability to daisy chain between each other to reach the central computer.

Sensor node in tissue box

A sensor node stored in a tissue box for safety.

There were some other things we worked on. I continued work on the data map, which entailed learning how to use Python to write HTML – the library I was using for the map worked by writing to an HTML file every time the code ran, so if I wanted to change the way the page with the map looked, I’d have to edit that HTML file in the code, not by hand.

I also did some more work on the apparatus for Adriann’s experiments. We got some of the components printed, and made some changes to the design. I had the opportunity to do some sanding – some of the pillars and bars weren’t quite rectangular.

New model and sample

A new design for a sample holder, designed to accommodate the new clamps.

Outside of work, I spent most of my time reading and writing, and generally relaxing. I’m excited for the rest of this internship, and sad that there’s only two more weeks left.
