Week 3 was an odd week because there wasn’t much that happened in the office.
Monday I was sick all day from the previous weekend.
Tuesday I got back on my feet but Dr. Baker wasn’t at the office due to her cat breaking its leg. She ended up taking the cat up north to a surgery center because she couldn’t perform the surgery herself.
Wednesday everyone cried in the office. A 4 year old cat that had an abscess came in, over time that abscess drained and was not attended to by the owner so the cat scratched and picked at the wound. Two weeks after the abscess erupted the owner finally decided to bring the cat in. Dr. Ford concluded the cat needed the wound wrapped and treated for the next month then it would be like nothing ever happened. Before the doctor even diagnosed the cat the owner wanted to put the young cat down. After the doctor diagnosed and purposed a treatment, the owner still wanted to put him down because she believed she couldn’t treat the cat. Rhonda, the manager, then offered for the hospital to take the cat and treat him at no cost to her and find him a new home whether it be with them or one of their staff because he was so young ad yet the owner still wanted to put him down. I learned you couldn’t do anything when put in that position as a doctor even if it was morally wrong. The owner was going to do what she wanted whether we liked it or not. Dr. Ford put the treatable four year old cat down despite what his personal opinion was. Everyone in the office cried and despised the owner. Wednesday was just a gloomy day.
Thursday and Friday the office had off because of the holiday! Happy Fourth of July! I spent the two days with some family over in Destin about 2 hours away. We went deep sea fishing on my cousin Sean’s boat from 6AM to 4PM Friday. The weather was on the hot side of 100 degrees Fahrenheit but we had no rain and no waves to worry about on the water. We caught the limit of two snapper per person and got all the grouper we could eat. We had fish all weekend for lunch and dinner.
The Florida beaches had many dangers come to the public in the past couple of weeks. One of the dangers at Panama City beaches are the rip tides that take people out into the gulf killing them. In the past two weeks 4 people have been killed at the beach here. Double red flags were flying, meaning the water is closed to the public, but people still decide to get in. Another danger has been the sharks. Those tides have been bringing in huge 10 to 15 foot hammer heads, great whites, and lemon sharks which has caused 3 shark attacks and a couple of sightings within 3 local beaches. The newest threat on the beaches is a flesh eating bacteria called Narcotizing Fasciitis. The oceans all around Florida whether it be Tampa, Destin, or Panama City Beach are reaching temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the water causing this bacteria to grow. The only way to get infected is by having an open wound in the water. The bacteria then stops blood tissue causing tissue to die and skin to decay. I didn’t have much to write about so there’s the current event that Florida is dealing with….deadly waters.
