Hello Everyone!
This week my focus was entirely on the Rodham Institute. I spent my whole week in the office planning activities for the HELP camp that Rodham holds every year, as well as constructing a curriculum for the Rodham Scholars employability program. Both programs are for kids in high school. In my research for activities to incorporate in the two programs, I looked to find workshops that would enhance the student’s leadership skills, knowledge of the social determinants of health, and team building capabilities.
On Thursday, my mentor gave me the opportunity to lead the first Rodham Scholars session. In this session, I led the students through different exercises to further their understanding of the importance of maintaining a positive attitude in the workplace. In the afternoon, I went with my mentor Dr. El-Bayoumi to a nonprofit organization called Food and Friends. Food and Friends is an organization that gives three meals a day to an individual diagnosed with HIV, cancer, diabetes, etc. and their families. It was empowering to be in a community space that meaningfully impacts peoples lives.
This weekend, I went to the Smithsonian museum of art, the Lincoln Memorial, and a few farmers markets.
