Hi friends! My name is Kendahl Roufa; I am a student at Telluride High School. I spent that last week in Denver spending some time with family friends and starting my internship at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) working in food waste management.
Wednesday was my very first day at CSM; my parents and I went up and visited the campus, so I could get to know my surroundings. The school is in Golden, CO, and it is nestled right at the base of Lookout MT, so the college is stunning. After the quick tour of the campus, my family and I went into downtown Denver and spent our afternoon eating and shopping.
Thursday morning arrived, and so did my internship. I met with one of the graduate students I would be working with at 9 am in the Arthur Lakes Library. Her name is Mikaela; she is a Ph.D. student working on a project that deals with food waste management on the CSM campus, amongst other things. She and I discussed the logistics of the internship and got me all set up to work at CSM. After we got to know each other and cover all the basics, I was given my first assignment: a literature review about food waste on other college campuses around the country/world and different ways food waste affects the environment. With that assignment in hand, I began my research. Below are some of my notes for my lit review.
Over the weekend, I went mountain biking on Green mountain for a few hours with some of my old friends from Evergreen.
So far this week was fantastic, I have learned so much, and I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks have in store for me!
Thanks for sharing, Kendahl! Your internship sounds fascinating and we cannot wait to learn more about your work at CSM.
