This week was my last week at the Rodham Institute. I spent Monday at the Ward 8 health council which was onsite in Ward 8. It was interesting seeing how many people with different initiatives came together to achieve the goal of health equity throughout DC. On Tuesday and Wednesday I shadowed in clinic for the last time. On Thursday I worked in the Rodham Institute and went to Grand
Rounds at the hospital. On Friday I said goodbye to all my friends at the Rodham Institute. I had such a great time thanks to everyone at the Rodham Institute and was fortunate enough to work with such amazing people.
This week I spent a lot of my time with the Rodham Institute’s Summer Youth Employment Program. On Tuesday, the Summer Youth Employment Program and I spent a day at a OT and PT clinic. There we learned about different fields within both OT and PT and the variety within these two areas of medicine. We met an
occupational therapist who showed us how she molds splints and a physical therapist who showed us how she wraps limbs of patients with lymphedema. We also got to see different types of wheelchairs and to learn about why certain wheelchairs are recommended over others depending on a patient’s circumstance.
On Wednesday, I was able to spend time shadowing at the pulmonary clinic. Wednesday evening, I got the chance to go to the Egyptian Embassy for Egypt night where I saw a lot of amazing dance and tried Egyptian food that I had never tried before. Thursday and Friday I spent working at the Rodham Institute with another intern on a curriculum for the Rodham Institute after school program that will happen this fall.
