And finally, my summer as an ASU intern has come to an end! This week was all about finishing up what was left to be done. I busted out the conclusion of the research paper I mentioned last week, and put together a small presentation on the all the science I have learned over the last two months to present to Chad.
These last two months… wow. Geochemistry was never a field that I really considered for myself let alone understood. I have a pretty decent understanding of the field now, (you know, doing chemistry on rocks) and although
I am not sure that this is the path I want to take for myself, I am unbelievably thankful for the opportunity to learn about geology and chemistry in relation to a field I am heavily interested in, astrobiology. Spending six weeks in a lab could seriously put a damper on any highschooler’s summer, and yeah I missed my home mountains and cooler air, but I could not be more excited to see where science and research can take me in the future. What started as a small flame of passion for science, has ignited to engulf a multitude of fields and discoveries that are in the making. The Anbar Lab allowed me to prospect what a potential career could be for myself in a STEM field, and so wherever and whatever I end up pursuing in life, I will always have this incredible experience to remember.
Leaving the brilliant people at the lab after they threw me a goodbye party was pretty sad, especially leaving the cake behind, and leaving my host family and their remarkable home was even more difficult, as my bag was 50 pounds. But once again, thank you times a million to all of the Pinhead staff for your persistence for all the Pinterns, and to all of the wonderful people I have met during my time here in Tempe- Teresa, Jay, Chad, and the entire Anbar Lab, you made this summer unforgettable, I’ll miss you.
