Week five at the CU Change Lab has introduced me to something I never thought I would be interested in: computer programming. I thought computer programming would be more tedious than interesting, but it turns out that it actually is quite entertaining once you get the hang of it…. not to mention its practicality in the world of science.
During this time, I was asked to assist Rupa Sabbineni, a Senior Professional Research Assistant at the CUChange Lab, with her analyzation of fMRI data. I used the program ‘MatLab’ to use (basic) commands to open ‘SPM’ where I could then review brain scans and categorize them based on the quantity of neural activity of the particular scan. Although this task was minute, I enjoyed having the opportunity to physically add to the research process.
On the days that did not include computer programming, I continued to observe the usual happenings at the lab. Two of the highlights include: exercizing a participant on my own and folding hundreds of flyers that we then mailed out to recruit participants. (I left relatively unscathed with only one paper cut!).
Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable week at the lab, and I cannot wait to see what the final week has in store!
