Over the past week I have been able to work with paralyzed children in their recovery to overcome paralysis.  I have been helping therapists and doctors work with patients, and also I have been able to play games with the children in recovery to distract them from the process. For example, this week I set up a scavenger hunt for a patient. We also painted with shaving cream and had a tea party.

By now in my internship, I am becoming very familiar with terms, procedures, and requirements of rehab involving paralyzed patients. It is a very rewarding feeling to help these children, and I am looking forward to the remaining two weeks of my internship.

This weekend, I drove down to Mammoth Caves National Park in rural Kentucky. Mammoth Caves is the largest underground cave network ever discovered.

On the way, I stopped at a small town which had an old general store, a few restaurants, and not much else. It was a very back woods, small, southern village. I ate lunch at a roadside cookout, and then proceeded to the Mammoth Caves. The total drive was about two hours from Louisville.

The caves were super cool. Afterwards I went on a long hike along the Green River, through a dense forest. It was very beautiful and great to get out of the city for a day.
