Hi all,
This was my first week as a Pinhead intern in Louisville Kentucky. I am interning at the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, which is connected to the University of Louisville, which researches spinal cord injuries and treatment. The Frazier Rehab Institute, the Building I am in, uses information from the University of Louisville in therapy. The Christopher & Dana Reeves Foundation is also connected to this, they are a sponsor, specifically for the Neurorecovery Network; a branch of activity based therapies.
I am interning under Dr. Andrea Behrman PhD, PT. I have been doing a mixture of things, from sorting files to taking notes in a research and rehab room, specializing in a process called Locomotor Training, which aims to teach people with Spinal Cord Injury how to walk and use their legs or affected area again. However, every sort of rehab that takes place here falls under the category of recovering after spinal cord injury.
It’s really cool, and super interesting!
I am staying just outside of downtown, about a ten-minute drive from my internship. I have been super busy during the week days when I am interning, but on the weekend I went for a long bike ride into Indiana and checked out the city of Louisville a bit.
So far I have been enjoying my internship a lot, and have been learning a ton!
I am looking forward to the following weeks! Thanks a ton to everyone who is making this happen, especially Sarah Holbrooke, the Pinhead Institute, the folks at The Frazier Rehab Institute, The Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, the University of Louisville, and my parents.
Sincerely,
Theo Rolfs
